How to Write a Book and Monetize it Instantly

write a book and monetize it instantly

Are you thinking of how to write a book and monetize it instantly?

If yes, then you just found the perfect guide for yourself.

Writing and selling books is one way to make passive money.

Now, wait a minute…

You won’t turn into Shakespeare or Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie overnight.

But you will have money on autopilot.

Thanks to the internet, writing and publishing a book isn’t as difficult as it used to be.

The bulk of the work is in the writing of the book.

Writing just for the sake of the money will probably not give you the kind of money you think it will.

After all, many already published authors are financially struggling.

I know. It’s just the hard truth.

As a rule of thumb, if you won’t buy a book from the bookstore, don’t write it.

Whatever you write should be valuable, original and passionate.

Passion for the topic you’re writing on is advisable because, first, it makes it easier to write.

Secondly, you will be able to write more convincingly.

Ebooks are the easiest way to make cool cash and be a published author.

So many books nowadays can be found as both hard copies and softcopies.

Tips On Writing and Monetising an Ebook

The whole process of publishing an ebook is cheap.

At least, it’s cheaper than publishing a paperback.

As I said earlier, the bulk of the work is in writing.

This is so because a good ebook takes time before it makes it to the internet.

A good one takes months and even years from start to finish.

So, here comes the first tip.

how to write a book and monetize it instantly

1. Don’t be in a Hurry:

It’s better to take two years to write a good book than write a half-assed book.

Take your time to write your book.

You don’t need to be in a hurry because you’re not under any contract with some publishing firm.

Work at your pace and do something you’re proud of.

A book lacking in quality won’t do well in the market. Some points to take note of include:

  • Know how to write well. Know basic grammar rules
  • Use editing software like Grammarly to crosscheck your work
  • You don’t need anything fancy. Microsoft Word and Google Docs will do just fine
  • Write several versions and pick the best
  • Give to family members and friends to also help crosscheck
  • Take breaks in between writing to clear your mind so that you can be able to see things more clearly
  • Every sentence, paragraph and chapter should flow. Your writing should be cohesive.
  • Write in your language. Don’t use too big words that you don’t use. Write like you speak, only more professional.

2. What to Write:

So many people know that they want to write.

They know that they want to become authors at some point.

What they don’t know is what they’re going to write.

It is a bit easier if you already have a blog because you are already writing about something.

So, you can check for your blogs with the most views and expand on them.

For example, if you run a fashion blog and your two most performing posts are titled “How to Look Slimmer in an Outfit” and “How to Dress to Turn Heads with Little Money”, you can write a book based on them.

It could be titled “Frugal, Stylish and Beautiful”.

If you don’t have a blog, this may be a bit difficult. But relax; there is a lot to write about.

Here are some ideas:

  • A compilation of short stories
  • Poems
  • Life experiences
  • Write on a common problem and its solution
  • A children’s book
  • A practical guide
  • Write what is trending. An excellent way to know this is by checking google trends.

If you’ve not yet decided on what to write, don’t worry; you will get inspired.

Just make sure you keep practising and honing your writing skills.

3. Research:

As much as it’s essential to write about a topic you’re comfortable with, not all niches sell.

There are different prices for different niches.

The niche with the highest price is erotic romance.

So if you’re writing a self-help book, know how self-help books are doing in the market.

Undoubtedly, some books will do better than others.

Some niches also do better than others.

Know your market.

Your market also determines how much you will set your book at.

4. Designing Your Book Cover:

I know everyone says, “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” but honestly, a good book cover is essential.

I can’t even lie; the packaging of any product is the first determinant of my purchasing the product.

You can meet a professional designer for your book cover.

But, if you don’t have that money to pay someone, you can do it yourself.

You can use Canva, Photoshop, Lightroom, PSDCovers, etc.

Al you need to do is learn how to use these apps/software correctly.

5. Get a Good Publishing Company That You’re Comfortable With:

Now that we’re done with the book, you’re halfway to completion.

It’s not easy to get a good publisher if it’s a paperback book.

Publishing houses are very picky with what they publish.

In the ebook world, it’s not that difficult.

The most popular ebook publishing site is Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).

This helps you publish your work for free.

As with every publishing company, though, a part of the money is for them.

With KDP, 30% of every sale is theirs.

The advantage of KDP is the amount of Kindle users.

There are millions of them.

This means that your book will have more exposure than you could imagine.

However, this means that your book has to be very good because there’s a lot of competition on Kindle.

Other publishing platforms are LuLu, Kobo, Smashwords, Kitaboo, etc.

All you need to do is convert your book format to either PDF, epub, doc, etc. and follow the rules.

7. Market Your Book:

If you already have a platform, for example, a blog, this is easier.

Never get tired of marketing your book.

Talk about it before writing, while writing, after writing, thinking of the publishing platform, etc.

Just market your book.

If you have an email following, be sure to put this on every email you send to your subscribers.

If you don’t have a blog and want one, go here to know how to start a blog as a SAHM.

You can also use social media platforms to publicise your book.

If you have the money, you can even buy advertising space on a blog or a youtube channel, etc.

Tell your friends and family to spread the good news too.

What use is a good book if only you read it?

Pricing Your Book

One importance of writing a book is the extra money. But, pricing your book can be an arduous process.

There are so many things you have to consider like

  • The length of the book
  • The niche
  • Will you be selling on your website?

Here’s a general rule:

The longer the book, the higher the price. So when setting a price, think of its length.

A 200-page book will be more expensive than a 100-page book.

As I said earlier, some niches perform better than others.

Research on how much books in your niche cost.

Selling on your blog/website is more profitable because you can set the price as you like.

Not to mention that a simple downloadable PDF file is enough.

If you sell on a platform like Amazon, you will have to reduce the price to compete well with other books.

If your book is a self-help book and you set its price to $20 on your website, you will reduce it to about $1.50 or thereabout on Amazon.

There are many self-help books on the platform, and people will always buy the cheaper ones.

You can also try out tiered pricing.

This is where there’s a discount for, say, the first five people who purchase the book or for the first three days of its debut.

If you have a blog, using the $20 price, you make $15 for your email subscribers for a few days, $18 for non-email subscribers and then back to $20.

This rule can also work if you’re on a platform like Amazon.

Conclusion

There are so many reasons why one would want to publish a book.

Whatever your reason is, your book should add value to its readers.

If it adds value, you establish yourself as a good author, and your other books will already have a market.

Take your time to write something quality, and don’t worry yourself with publishers and prices and all that.

Remember that the main work is in the writing of the book.
