Survival Tips For Working Moms

Hey Maama, are you burnt out from juggling work responsibilities and keeping up with the home? In this article, I’ll be sharing with you some survival tips for working moms.

Parenthood is not an easy job, and we already know that, right? It is even more challenging for mums who have a job and still need to create a balance at home too and are possibly facing discrimination at work too.

Many working mums want to work because they are super talented and intelligent. Mums are much more, you know?! But if I am being honest, we sometimes set high standards wanting to top the chart both at work, at home, as a wife, and as a mum all at the same time.

This target we set for ourselves most times is not feasible and we cannot achieve most things without help. If not careful, as a working mum you can constantly be drained and tired because of demands on you both at home and work.

One of the best things anyone can do is be honest with their limits and set boundaries targeted at helping them achieve those limits set.

As a working Mum, being organized is one thing you cannot afford to not do. Having an organized schedule can be of great help but there is no one size fits all basic organization that can save you from collapsing at the end of the week.

Survival tips for working moms

Here are a few tips that can help make life easy for you as a working mum, I call them the ultimate survival kit.

Work with a meal plan

Meal plans save you brain work every time you need to think of food, you work on it ahead of time and just follow through with it. It is also easy for you to ask someone else to help make a meal once you know what is on the menu.

Schedule house chores

All chores do not have to be done in one day so do not clog your weekends with chores. This is probably the only time you might have with your family. If you have got older kids, assign chores to them too.

Stock up house supplies and double cook

Long-term supplies mean you want to have to rush to the store or market often and you can control your time too. When cooking, try cooking double the portion so some can be saved in the freezer. On days you work late, it’s just easy to defrost what’s in the freezer.

Hire a help

If you have the funds and can afford a cleaner, do get one. And if you feel you don’t have the funds, look around other departments where you can cut cash if you really need one.

Parenting schedule

Routines are awesome and can help you with the organization. Once your kids are on board with the routines, trust me it’s easy to plan other things.

Schedule your bedtime

Good sleep is important to the body and having a good sleep pattern can help your body rest well. Treat yourself to quality sleep and wake up refreshed and ready to take on the new day.

Online shopping

You don’t need to go to the shop to pick up supplies, especially the impromptu ones that come up. Shopping online might cost you a little extra but save you some time. It’s a win-win situation, you see.

Family fun time

Yes, you can work and still have a good time with your family. Try as much as you can to leave your weekends open for family or days that work for you. You can schedule family outings so you can work towards making it happen.

Working hours

You need to know and have working hours, it is also important everyone is clear about it too. Clear working hours for each day and week can help you be an efficient working mum.

Stay focused

Multitasking might not be the best for you so try and stay focused on one thing, finish up and move to the next. In the end, you need to find what works for you.

Conclusion

It is important to give yourself a break, do not go on setting high standards that will only push you too hard. You will make mistakes, poor decisions, and maybe totally blow some things up, just keep doing what you are doing the best way you can with what you have. After all, you are human and perfection is not a human thing, do not always feel everything has to be perfect. Just enjoy the ride.
